Democrats
Letters To The Editor
"Vote Democrats" Published in Idaho Statesman In his April 19 column, Dan Popkey quotes Jim Risch as saying Idaho
Democrats are energized this year because national polls show growing public
disapproval of George W. Bush and the GOP-led Congress. That's true, but we
also see the Idaho Statesman poll where 62 percent of respondents gave the
Republican-dominated Idaho legislature a "D" or "F." Julie Fanselow, Boise

A recent letter writer remarked how working Idahoans don't have lobbyists in
the Legislature. But actually, we do. They're called Democrats.
Idaho's Democratic legislators fought hard in the Statehouse this year. They
tried to raise the minimum wage — a move that would boost pay for all
middle-class Idahoans. Democrats worked to defeat a coal-fired power plant
that would have harmed Southern Idaho's air, water and economy. Democrats
pressed to raise the circuit breaker and homeowner's tax exemptions and stood
firm against taking local control away from local schools. And Democrats led
the drive against selling public lands.
Idahoans now realize that Republican majorities have failed us on every level,
from Boise to Washington, D.C. If you want open, honest government that works
for you and your family, not for fat-cat lobbyists, this is the year to vote
for more Democrats.
