LEGISLATORS: 100 days is not that long Published in Coeur d'Alene Press You cannot imagine how happy I am for our Republican dominated state
legislators that their 100 day session is over. I'm sorry we are such a burden.
That's almost the same amount of time that the average wage earner has to work
just to break even on their federal and state taxes without even looking at
their property tax. Now let me see if I understand what our Republican reps did for us beside
prevent Democrat's ideas from even being heard. They were able to decide not to get serious about property tax because of
a rumor that their governor might veto what they did. They were able to move
pedophiles 500 feet from schools but really didn't do much in the way of
tracking or punishing these animals. They made mention of health care reform but
by the time a parent or child can be seen, something that was preventable is now
deadly serious. They agreed to talk about protecting our water in the "next
session." They did however with unheard-of speed try to regulate what
school clubs your child can join, while leaving our entire educational system in
shambles. And most important were able to come to the aid of the down and out
cigar smokers by putting a cap on cigar tax (the citizens have trouble putting
food on the table but can now afford to a least have a good smoke). I'm sorry but it seems to me that our Republican reps were more interested
in putting everything truly important off until the end of the session then
claiming that because of the need to go home weren't able to take care of
business. Wow 100 days, well I know that I am going to vote for George Sayler,
Bonnie Douglas, and Steve Foxx, people that take representation seriously and
want to get the job done no matter how long it takes. Michael Teague
