Raw Backroom Deal Published in Idaho Statesman Sure, the governor's friend from California will do well under his
proposed plan. It is estimated that Arnold Schwarzenegger will see his
property taxes go down $15,000 if this plan is passed. But what about
middle-class residents with average paychecks? Once again, there is no relief
for us. I encourage residents to weigh in on this issue with their state
representatives. Time is short and the governor seems determined to pass this
bill without public input.

The governor's proposed tax bill provides huge breaks to business and
out-of-state vacation homeowners while middle-class Idahoans hope to break
even as they are hit with another 20 percent sales tax increase.
When will Gov. Jim Risch and the Republican-controlled Legislature wake up and
realize we want real property tax relief, not a backroom deal brokered to
shift the cost from one form of tax to another?
The Democrats have proposed a different plan with 100 percent of the tax break
going to Idaho residents. After years of shifting the property tax burden from
business to homeowners, this proposal seems the most equitable.
Don't let that happen.
